Our Review:

When I heard Alpinestars had a pair of the new Tech 3 motocross boots for us to try, out I figured they'd just be a simple style of the same old motocross boots for those on a budget. Wow, was I wrong! The boots came in and I opened the box to a great surprise. As you can see by the images on this page, these boots look sweet and have a modern look compared to all the regular low budget motocross boot on the market. Needless to say I strapped these boots on and strutted around the house breaking them in like some kind of kid on Christmas morning.

Once I put them on I realized they are already feel broken in, and felt great just walking around in. These new boots take some technology from the Tech 10 boot. The bottom sole has to be one of the best features to this boot, I love it! If there is one thing that I can't live without from now on is this sole. I have used Alpinestars Tech 8's for as long as I can remember and I have never replaced the sole of any of my boots so for me and my sharp foot pegs I'll be buying boots with these soles. The new sole is made of a rubber that really grips well, it is just soft enough to allow the pegs to dig in a little but are very, very durable. I can not bend the sole by hand and when you are on the bike your feet feel like they are better supported because of the thicker sole. With this material replacing the metal tip protector of the boots from other boots I would be surprised to see the next release of the Tech 8's not using this new sole technology.

Tech 3 Buckle
The buckles on this boot are made from a high impact resistant plastic and I have not had enough time to really beat these boots but they buckle and that's what's really important. I have to hand it to Alpinestars on their new buckles, if you've had their older pairs of MX boots, you know what I am talking about. These buckles click in great and you don't have to be a bodybuilder to make them snap in. A+ on the buckles for all the new boots.

Let's go onto the material used in this boot. Considering the price tag, I am surprised they didn't just go with cardboard. They use more leather in this boot and to me the biggest change is the back of the boot or the calf section. Gone is the thick plastic section to protect the back of your calf, not a big concern for me, it is almost better because the boot is lighter. Other than the back section the rest of the boot is made up of plastic that seems to be bullet proof, although I don't recommend you shoot your boots. The seams are double stitched and the quality is always top notch from Alpinestars.

Other notables, these boots have no booties... I like the booties some times and sometimes I could care less about having them. I like being able to take the bootie out and let them dry off but some days I just leave them in and then I have to wash them later so I am up in the air on the whole bootie thing, I guess I just like the option. Also there does seem to be more padding in the ankles section, I would guess that is there replacement for the bootie. The inner lining is made of that smooth silky feeling material that makes sliding your foot in easier and I think that is the same material that wicks sweat, not 100% sure but it feels just like those riding jerseys that do. Four straps help lock your feet into these boots, your feet are safe and sound inside these boots.

My overall opinion for the Tech 3 Motocross boot is this: grand slam Alpinestars! This is simply more than just a home run, these boots have really changed my opinion of the old saying "you get what you pay for." Hands down the Tech 3 has taken the “Motocross Boots on a Budget” class and are competing with the Tech 8's. Yep I really do think that! When the Tech 8's have the same sole they will be no comparison, but until them the Tech 3's are a very close second, very close. With a retail price of $159.95 (yeah that's $159.95) these boots are a hit.
